Kanji of "Kokoro", means heart, mind, consciousness
Kanji are Japanese logographic character that each Kanji represents a word. It is not just for a means of communication, as Japanese have been writing Kanji as an art work on Washi paper, traditional paper made by artisans’ hands.
This workshop provides an opportunity for you to create your own Kanji art work which you can bring back home. Our guest will take a brush to write a Kanji with ink on a hand fan made for calligraphy use. Our instructor of this workshop, who has been involved in the education of Kanji for over 20 years, will help you to get the basic understanding of Kanji writing and its techniques.
After booking, we will provide a list of Kanji with each meaning in English. Our guests can take their time to pick up their favorite Kanji before the workshop.
As a bonus, you can also experience Washi paper making, which is registered as UNESCO intangible culture heritage. Washi paper is not only beautiful but also as durable as it lasts more than thousand years. Our guests make Washi paper in studio located in a time-honored Washi paper shop. It’s a fun activity and gives clearer understanding of Japanese stationery before they start Kanji writing.
